Mummy & Baby yoga

mummy-baby-yoga-1The postnatal period is one of great change and adjustment.  Yoga can be of great support in helping women transition as smoothly as possible through this special time.  The main physical focus of postnatal yoga is on dynamically but safely rebuilding core strength, providing comfort and stability for the lower back and pelvis, strengthening the abdominal area and opening for the chest and shoulders which often become tight through feeding and carrying.  Classes will have both an energising and relaxing effect on mothers and provide a warm and supportive atmosphere to bond with your baby and meet other mums. Although much of the emphasis is on the mother, mummy and baby classes also include gentle yoga stretches, music and rhymes for the babies which all help to aid sleep. Classes are suitable 6 weeks after birth once you have had your postnatal check with your GP until your baby is crawling.  Postnatal yoga also works well as a one on one session as Jennie is able to hold and entertain the baby if necessary, making a really deep, focused practice more possible.

mummy-baby-yoga-2During her most recent and ongoing postnatal recovery period Jennie has been completing a  project on Postnatal recovery as part of her Yoga Therapy Diploma course and has experience working with women with related postnatal health issues such as lower back pain, incontinence, prolapse, caesarean recovery, post natal depression and RSI.  She fully understands the challenges of  limited time for new mums and has developed a post natal practice which is very focused and specific in its nature by targeting the areas most in need of work, thus achieving maximum benefit in the minimum time.

“My baby and I really enjoy going to Mummy and Baby Yoga, it’s a great way to exercise and spend time with your little one.  The class that Jennie runs is nicely relaxed and she makes you feel very comfortable.  You are free to feed or change your baby if you need to and Jennie is always on hand to give cuddles if they cry!” Danni, Slough

“I know I don’t manage the harder versions you suggest but nevertheless I think my abs are the best they’ve been in my life. My tummy feels completely different !” Judith, Marlow

“Jennie devised a yoga therapy programme for me following the birth of my second child and second caesarean section. She defined the weak areas of my body and gave me specific exercises to strengthen them, along with stretches for the tight areas and some much needed relaxation poses. I felt entirely safe in her hands and the exercises helped enormously. Of course it is not always easy to find the time for yoga as a new mum but Jennie is only too aware of this and designed a programme that fits around a busy and hectic lifestyle. It works! I am delighted with the results and thoroughly recommend Jennie as a yoga therapist. She knows exactly what she is doing and is a pleasure to spend time with. I feel privileged to have been in her care.” Sasha, London
